All students are charged a yearly administration Fee and Home materials fee, which are separate from tuition and are due by August 15, 2024 to reserve a spot in the Fall/Winter/Spring Schedule.
A payment is considered late if not paid by above schedule. A $30 late fee will be charged for payments made after the first day of the month. If payment is still late after 30 days, it is now considered delinquent and lessons will have to discontinue until this payment and the next payment is made. If there is a student on the waiting list your spot will be offered to take your place in the schedule.
Payment by credit card will incur a 3 percent fee over the price charged. Credit cards are accepted with online invoice or at the studio.
There is a $30 fee for a bounced check.
Administration Fee
A $100 administration fee is due by August 15, 2024 for returning students. For new students, the fee is due by the first lesson and is not pro-rated. This fee is non-refundable and there is no refund for this fee if the child withdraws from lessons.
Materials Fee
A material fee of $100 is charged above the tuition fee for all new students. This fee is due by August 1, 2024. For new students the fee is due by the first lesson. All music and other material purchased for a student during the year will be debited from this amount. If the balance falls below $20 an invoice will be sent to replenish the materials credit back to $100. Any remaining amount before September 1 will be credited towards the following year's home materials fee. This fee is non-refundable and there is no refund for this fee if the child withdraws from lessons. It is expected that students purchase music books that are part of the curriculum. If you are purchasing the book through the studio, you will be billed for the book as well as the shipping fee and any required sales taxes. Borrowed music from the studio shall be returned by the next week or student is charged for the replacement of the book.
For returning students, any balance left over from last year is applied towards the $100 material fee and remaining balance is added to the September invoice.
Attendance
Students are enrolled and committed to attend lessons and complete assignments for the entire year.
Summer Attendance
Only students who continue their study and attend at least four lessons through the Summer Session are offered a Fall lesson slot. Students who break for the summer and do not take four lessons during the summer session are placed on a waiting list and will be scheduled as slots open.
Missed Lessons
Because specific times are set a side for specific students, a student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. There are no makeups. No make ups will be given if a student misses a lesson for going on vacation, scheduling a medical appointment during the scheduled lesson time or for other events during the school year. Piano lessons are an important part of the schedule. If a family chooses to make a sport commitment more important the lesson is forfeit.
If you wish to swap your time with another student, this is possible assuming another student is willing to swap that week. Contact Mrs. Johansen at least one week in advance if you wish to swap a lesson time. There is no guarantee that a student will be willing to swap.
Illness:
Lesson Time Policy
If a student is late to their lesson, the lesson begins at the appointed time and ends at the appointed time. Lessons cannot go overtime to accommodate a late student. If the student is more than 15 minutes late, it is considered a missed lesson and the student will be charged. If Mrs. Johansen is not present at the studio for a scheduled lesson time, the student is expected to wait for 15 minutes before leaving the studio. The lesson will then be made up at a later date (not included as a make up as stated above). If Mrs. Johansen arrives within the 15 minute grace period, then the lesson time will be adjusted or the time will be made up at a later date, depending on everyone’s schedule.
Musicales
Musicales and piano parties are scheduled throughout the school year. These are fun and educational experiences and a chance for students to share their progress with their peers and their families. It is expected that all students will attend at least two piano musicales or piano parties per season, although sharing their own performances is not mandatory. Please support these important social gatherings. I would love to express my wish also that students attend as many concerts throughout the school year because I believe live concerts are the heart of all music and our students must be exposed not only to live music but music of many different genres; classical concerts, opera, ballet, chamber concerts, musical soirees, concerts by new composers, etc. but I am aware this may not be possible at this time. I would hope you are listening to recordings or performances online.
Withdrawals
If a student withdraws at any time during the year, tuition will be charged for the following two weeks of lessons. Any outstanding fees for books not returned or purchased will be charged and any remaining balance will be then refunded.
Piano at Home
It is essential that your piano be in tune. Arrange to have your piano tuned at least twice during the school year. It is also expected that your piano be maintained so it is playable.
BEING PREPARED FOR LESSONS
All students are expected to practice daily. To progress at the piano, the pianist must visit the piano daily if possible and have enough time to complete the weekly assignment.
If a student is unprepared due to little or no practice for more than two lessons a notice will be sent home with a log sheet to be filled out and signed by a parent. Parents will be expected to supervise and monitor the child’s practice. It there is no change Mrs. Johansen reserves the right to discontinue lessons.
Additionally, all students must bring all music books needed during the lesson. Please do not expect the studio to supply books left home.
